Correcting Venous Insufficiency and Varicose Veins
At Triangle Vein Clinic, we are pleased to offer VenaSeal ™, a closure system that improves blood flow by sealing – or closing – the diseased vein. The system delivers a small amount of a specially formulated medical adhesive to the diseased vein. The adhesive seals the vein and blood is rerouted through nearby healthy veins. Mapping The Underlying Problem Areas
Before your VenaSeal ™ procedure, you will have an ultrasound imaging exam of the leg veins that need treatment. This exam is important for assessing the diseased veins, mapping the problem locations and for planning the procedure. Ultrasound imaging technology is a noninvasive and effective technique that allows us to see your veins. Ultrasound uses sound waves instead of radiation to capture images of veins and arteries. Ultrasound is painless and is done in our office by our registered vascular technologist. In addition to being an invaluable tool to aid Dr. Medina, it delivers the images needed to communicate your need for corrective measures to your insurance company.
Eliminating Varicose Veins With The VenaSeal ™ Procedure
Your complete treatment is done in our office and there is no need for hospitalization. To begin, the area where the vein is accessed is numbed with a needle and you may feel some minor pain or stinging. Once the area is sufficiently numb, Dr. Medina will insert the catheter (i.e., a small hollow tube) into your leg. You may feel some pressure from the placement of the catheter. The catheter will be placed in specific areas along the diseased vein to deliver small amounts of the medical adhesive. You may feel some mild sensation of pulling or tugging. Ultrasound will be used during the procedure to guide and position the catheter.
After treatment, the catheter is removed and a bandage placed over the puncture site. As you rest, Dr. Medina and his staff will go over things that will aid and simplify your recovery. One of the benefits of VenaSeal ™ is you can be back to normal faster. Another benefit is the convenience of not being required to wear compression stockings in most cases.
