At Triangle Vein Clinic, we are pleased to offer Venefit™ (formerly known as VNUS Closure®), a minimally invasive procedure that utilizes heat from radiofrequency ablation (RA) to close the varicose vein. Radiofrequency ablation has proven statistics demonstrating improved closure of vessels from that of laser treatment.
You will receive local anesthesia to numb the skin entry site on your leg and along the treatment path. A special catheter is inserted into the vein through a small incision just below the knee. The catheter delivers radiofrequency energy in 20-second bursts to provide controlled levels of heat to contract the vein walls, causing them to collapse and seal shut. The doctor will use ultrasound imaging technology to know where to guide the catheter. One small section of the vein is treated at a time.
You should expect the procedure to take 45 to 60 minutes, although we advise our patients to plan to be at Triangle Vein Clinic for one and a half hours. You will need someone to drive you home after the procedure, and you should not drive the rest of the day.
Like most patients, you should see noticeable improvement in your symptoms and appearance following the procedure. About 98 percent of patients who have been treated with Venefit say they would recommend it to a friend or family member with similar leg vein problems.
After the procedure:
- The day of the procedure you should walk for 10 minutes every hour until bed time, otherwise elevate your leg. Leave the wrappings / bandages in place until the next morning.
- You will wear graduated compression stockings for a month.
- Avoid vigorous exercise for one week, then resume regular activity.
- Avoid inactivity for a month.
